Meet USO of NorthWest Florida.
2015 Perfect Ten Community Hero.
This past week, and in the run up to Veteran's Day, we were fortunate to be able to visit our new friends at the USO office of NorthWest Florida, based out of the Pensacola International Airport.
The nation was on the brink of war when the USO officially formed in 1941.
Today, the USO is missioned to lift the spirit of America's troops and their families. USO does this through the development of centers, programs, and services designed specifically to advance that mission across the globe. One common misconception about the USO is that the organization conducts its work through the support of federal funding. This is not true. Instead, the USO operates thanks to donations and generosity of the American people and the USO supporters. Whether that takes the form of volunteer hours or financial contribution, USO remains dedicated to supporting troops and their families.
Programs like Operation Phone Home and United Through Reading are designed to reinforce the connection between troops, family, and friends and to simply say "thank you." Furthermore, USO has additional programs specifically focused on physical and mental rehabilitation. To make a donation or support the USO, please click here.
Across the North West Florida region, the USO currently serves over 15,000 troops every month. As part of this region, USO Pensacola International Airport is ideally located to support service men and women before, after, or between flights. Led by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, the center provides a movie area, video games room, kitchen library, and computer with wifi. It is open seven days a week. If you want to join the USO as part of the volunteering outreach program, please click here.
At Neon Coffee, we are grateful to our service men and women and their families. We are also deeply grateful for the people and organizations that support our troops. We are honored to recognize the USO team as part of the Perfect Ten campaign.
